MK and EFF snubbed in KZN Legislature

KZN Legislature committee chairs announced

Wednesday’s election of the chairpersons of committees for the KZN Legislature was concluded, with no spots going to MK or the EFF.

In the Legislature, portfolio committees are essential to oversee the work of the provincial executive council and hold members of the executive accountable.

Presiding over Wednesday’s election procedure, KZN Legislature Speaker Nontembeko Boyce said the Legislature administration, which supports members in the performance of their functions, welcomes the election of the office bearers and wishes them well as they perform their oversight mandate on behalf of the citizens of the province.

The ANC’s Ntuthuko Mahlaba was elected as chairperson of committee chairs.

The following chairpersons were elected:

1. Premier and Community Safety: Mbali Frazer (ANC)
2. Agriculture and Rural Development: Super Zuma (ANC)
3. Economic Development and Tourism: Mafika Mndebele (ANC)
4. Environmental Affairs and Tourism: Bongi Sithole-Moloi (ANC)
5. Education: Phumzile Buthelezi (IFP)
6. Finance: Mthandeni Dlungwane (ANC)
7. Health: Dr Imraan Keeka (DA)
8. Human Settlements: Dr Andile Biyela (IFP)
9. Sport, Arts and Culture: Sizophila Mkhize (ANC)
10. Cogta: Marlaine Nair (DA)
11. Transport: Mncedisi Maphisa (IFP)
12. Social Development: Noluthando Ngubane (IFP)
13. Public Works: Nhlanhla Msimang (IFP)
