New library opened in Mpembeni area
The City of uMhlathuze has opened the eMpembeni Modular Library
After having to walk long distances and sometimes taking two taxis to get to the nearest library, Mpembeni residents will now have access to information closer to home.
This after the City of uMhlathuze opened the eMpembeni Modular Library last week.
The free-to-use facility, situated in Ward 13 under Inkosi Dube, will ensure residents, especially school pupils and tertiary students can access services without having to spend money at internet cafes.
According to the city, the new state-of-the-art facility is ‘dedicated to enhancing lives through the provision of information’.
The facility offers services such as public access computers, internet access, photocopying, printing, book circulation and study spaces.
There is also internet research assistance for school projects, as well as books and puzzles for early childhood development.
The opening was welcomed by many residents around Zululand who took to social media to share their delight.
“A big congratulations to residents, especially schoolchildren. We implore residents to safeguard the facility and not destroy it when they are angry with the government,” commented Siphelele Vundla on the city’s Facebook page.

• Saturdays: 8am – 12 noon
