Fuel prices to go up at midnight

November fuel price increases across the board

Following consecutive fuel price decreases over the past couple of months, motorists are in for some increases as of midnight tonight (Tuesday).

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced that petrol will increase by 25 cents per litre while diesel will hike by 21 cents per litre and illuminating paraffin will go up by 20 cents per litre.

“The average Brent Crude oil price increased from 72.82 US dollars (USD) to USD 75.07 per barrel, during the period under review. The main contributing factor is the continued conflict in the Middle East and the stand-off between Iran and Israel.

“The average international petroleum product prices increased on average, in line with the higher oil prices, during the period under review.

“This led to higher contributions to the Basic Fuel Prices of petrol by 33.56 cents per litre and 21.55 cents per litre, diesel by 30.33 cents per litre and 28.58 cents per litre, and illuminating paraffin by 29.79 cents per litre respectively,” said the department.

Predicting the fuel price increases earlier this month, the Automobile Association (AA) said the prices are still cheaper than those experienced at the beginning of the year.

“We again urge consumers to monitor their fuel usage carefully and to budget according to the new prices that come into effect on Wednesday, 6 November.

“Ensuring vehicles are well maintained and in good mechanical condition, carefully planning routes and avoiding heavy traffic, if possible, are some ways in which motorists can ensure better fuel consumption,” the AA stated.
