Primary school pupils showcase electrical knowledge
Pupils showcase electrical knowledge during their year-end function at Gobandlovu Primary School
Parents and teachers beamed with pride when pupils under the ElectroSkills programme showcased their electrical knowledge during their year-end function at Gobandlovu Primary School on Wednesday.
After a year of theory and practical learning spearheaded by the Dr Gesi Foundation, young pupils have a platform to showcase what they have learnt.
On their own, they built an electrical circuit, from making a distribution board to installing different types of switches, lights and even sensors.
Excitement filled the school when the pupils switched on the lights and plugged household equipment into their newly built circuit, showcasing their electro skills.
The ongoing programme equips pupils with in-depth knowledge about electricity and lays a foundation for them to become artisans in the future.
According to programme founder Siyabonga ‘Dr Gesi’ Sikhakhane, classes also assist in preventing electrical accidents around homes, schools and the community.
“The goal is to give them basic information and safety measures, while also identifying those who have talent and want to pursue it as a career in the future,” he said.
During the event, all pupils were awarded certificates of participation.
Part of the positive community programme was the Department of Education in King Cetshwayo District representative Senzo Dube, as well as community organisations such as Lungelo Youth Development (LYD) Linzwa Foundation, Phumelela Community Organisation, Stand Out Foundation, and others.
