Saturday scorcher on the cards for Zululand region

2025 to start off on sizzling note for much of the Zululand region

With Sizzle City already living up to its name as City of uMhlathuze residents wilt in 36 degree Celsius temperatures, worse is in store come Saturday.

According to the Richards Bay Clean Air Association (RBCAA) data for New Year’s Eve, temperatures tipped the scales at close to 40 degrees Celsius at 1pm today (Tuesday) at their various weather stations.

However, Zululanders should enjoy some sort of relief from these scorching temperatures in the form of a thunderstorm this afternoon as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms across KwaZulu-Natal.

But that doesn’t mean temperatures won’t pick up again over New Year and into the weekend.

Peaking at 39 degrees C, Richards Bay residents can expect a sweltering Saturday, while Sunday should see 31 and thunderstorms.

After a 34 degree Friday, Empangeni residents should also brace for a 39 degree Saturday, breaking with thunderstorms and temperatures of 31 on Sunday.

Inland, eShowe can expect a high of 37 on Saturday, dipping to 30 and cloudy on Sunday; Mtubatuba can expect more civilised temperatures, with 33 and 31 on Saturday and Sunday respectively; Hluhluwe 35 and 33; Pongola 34 and 33, and Kosi Bay in the far north reaching highs of 33 and 32 on Saturday and Sunday.
