Disruptive rain forecast after scorching temperatures

Zululanders should brace for disruptive rain from Sunday

With temperatures expected to reach highs of 39 degrees today (Saturday), Zululanders should brace for disruptive rain from Sunday into Monday evening.

This as a level 4 warning has been issued by the SA Weather Service (SAWS), with widespread showers and thundershowers anticipated from Sunday midnight into Monday evening and possibly persisting until Tuesday morning.

The affected areas in the Zululand region include: Hlabisa, Mthonjaneni, Mtubatuba, Jozini, Hluhluwe and Mandeni.

“Continuous rainfall is expected to result in flooding and disruption to traffic.

“The rainfall accumulation is expected to reach about 100mm in places over KZN.

“The weather forecast will be closely monitored and the warning may be upgraded to an orange level closer to the time,” SAWS stated.

Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution when travelling on wet roads and avoid crossing low-lying bridges.

Residents are urged to stay indoors if possible and avoid crossing swollen streams where water is above the ankle.

If trapped in a vehicle during a flood, abandon it and climb to higher ground.

In buildings, move valuables to a safe place above the expected flood level.
