Plant-a-Tree programme grows knowledge and fruit

Local plant-a-tree drive spreads knowledge across uMhlathuze

‘Plant a tree now and have fruit for a lifetime.’

This was the motivation behind the Plant-a-Tree programme in Ngwelezane last week.

Many trees were planted at schools in the area, following a massive donation from the City of uMhlathuze’s Parks Unit.

“About 100 fruit trees were donated to be planted in all schools under ward 24, 27 and 28, and we led the planting.

“The idea is to ensure that learners participate in such drives so we can transfer knowledge and emphasise the importance of planting trees,” said organiser Mpendulo Mbulawa.

The drive included Thanduyise High School, Phesheya Primary School and Nongweleza High School.

Joining the fun were volunteers, community leaders, and Miss Icora FM Mandisa Khuboni.
