Mtubatuba spaza shops again under spotlight

Latest suspected food poisoning cases spark inspection of spaza shops outside Mtubatuba

ONE person was arrested and expired foodstuffs removed from shelves during a spaza shop inspection in Khula Village on Thursday, which was prompted by a recent school food poisoning scare.

Ward Councillor Ntokozo Mlungwana said about 10 spaza shops were inspected in his ward and the neighbouring ward, with some that have to rectify their sanitary conditions forced to close down.

Mlungwana said among the expired food items were chips, mayonnaise, soft drinks, maize meal, spices, cakes and hair products, which were removed from the shelves of some of these shops.
