Rape cases on the rise in Zululand region
District SAPS commissioner notes alarming 3.9% increase in rape cases
Targeted under the cover of darkness, women are lured into vehicles by unknown perpetrators offering them lifts, who rape them in the bushes or abandoned buildings.
As rape cases continue to rise across King Cetshwayo, district SAPS commissioner Major General Sipho Ngubane today (Thursday) took to the lectern at uMfolozi TVET College’s eSikhaleni campus to speak about current statistics.

Sharing reports on crime stats relating specifically to gender-based violence in King Cetshwayo District, Ngubane noted an alarming 3.9% increase in rape cases.
The Gender-based Violence and Femicide (GBV-F) dialogue, hosted by KZN Premier Thami Ntuli, serves as a platform to assess the effectiveness of existing policies, share survivor testimonies, and develop actionable strategies to strengthen the province’s response to GBV-F.
The dialogue includes members of the executive council, NGOs dealing with GBV-F cases, traditional leadership, spiritual-based organisations and other structures.
