Above-average autumnal rain forecast for Zululand region

Zululanders can expect above-average rainfall during autumn, with below-average winter rains

Residents of the north-eastern parts of South Africa can expect above-average autumn rainfall, gradually easing to below-average winter rains in the months to come.

This as the region, and much of KZN, reel in the aftermath of heavy rainfall during the final days of summer last week.

This forecast is included in the SA Weather Service’s (SAWS) seasonal climate watch covering March to July.

However, the situation could change as the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (Enso) is volatile and unpredictable.

The SAWS said the Enso recently crossed the La Niña threshold, but that current predictions are uncertain as to whether it will strengthen its La Niña state or revert to a neutral state.

“For South Africa, time is running out for a potential La Niña to affect us as summer is coming to an end,” said the weather service.

Minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to be mostly above-average for much of the country during the forecast period.
