Hockey stars are going for gold

Local schools to compete in 7th SPAR KZN Schoolgirls' Hockey Challenge

Hockey stars from all parts of the north coast will be in seventh heaven today (Saturday) at the 7th SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge.

Title defenders and competition hosts, Grantleigh Schools, are looking to ensure their name gets engraved on the trophy for the eighth time.

Vying for their shot at gold are participating schools Empangeni High, eShowe High, Felixton College, John Ross College, St Catherine’s and Richards Bay Christian School.

About the competition

Since the challenge’s inception in 2011, this year will mark the 150th tournament to be played over the last 15 years.

Staying true to tradition, this monumental event will feature seven teams playing their hearts out for 21 round robin games.

While a typical hockey game is 60 minutes, schools participating in the challenge have only 20 minutes to dominate their opponents.

For those who would love to witness the showdown, watch all the action on the SuperSport Schools app as games will be streamed live.
