Empangeni Rail illegal dumping eyesore

Ongoing illegal dumping across the City of uMhlathuze is irking both residents and the business sector

The ongoing issue of illegal dumping across the City of uMhlathuze is irking residents and the business sector, with the most recent incident in Empangeni.

Building rubble is being illegally dumped near businesses at the Rail, creating an eyesore for locals, while tipper trucks parking at the roadside cause a headache for motorists, especially during peak hours.

Despite a fine of R1 000 for illegal dumping, the practice continues in contravention of the municipal by-laws, littering greenbelts, streams, parks, verges, roadsides, and the backyards of residential, commercial, and industrial properties.

Concerned residents and business owners have suggested the fine be reviewed owing to an increase in illegal dumping.

The Zululand Observer has contacted the City of uMhlathuze for an update on its clampdown of illegal dumping in and around Empangeni and Richards Bay.
