Pelican Island was a hive of activity in perfect weather on Sunday

After being closed to the public because of abusive and irresponsible visitor behaviour that left Pelican Island a glass-littered mess, clean-ups, the erection of guarded entrance gates, and strict new rules led to the recreational facility being reopened on Sunday in true island party style

The people have spoken and the ‘new and improved’ Pelican Island is again available to the public

Funds raised on the day were donated to Richards Bay SPCA, represented by Bridgitte Brink, Violet Bezuidenhout, Engela Hamman and Lani Kaff

Providing a car wash service were Mncedisi Ntuli and Zamokwakhe Thobela

Thrilled to have the recreational area back for public use are uMhlathuze Community Tourism Organisation members Lethu Dladla, Sbahle Mkhwamubi, Amanda Palm, Steph Palm, Zama Cele and Ntuthuko Ntombela

Winner of Survivor South Africa in 2019, Rob Bentele has been part of the team ensuring Pelican Island survives as a safe and healthy recreational and environmental asset for the city
