Young eSikhaleni star makes waves internationally

Local actor Lungelo Tyson Mathonsi shares his journey to stardom

A young, passionate, multitalented star from eSikhaleni has made a name for himself in the entertainment industry.

Lungelo Tyson Mathonsi’s journey to stardom began with his love for rugby at Empangeni High School, which earned him bursaries to attend prestigious schools like Sarel Cilliers High School and St Charles College.

His talent on the rugby field not only showcased his athletic prowess, but also opened doors to other opportunities.

As he navigated his schooling career, Lungelo discovered his passion for acting, music and presenting.

He then went to the African Academy of Cinematic Art (AACA) where he studied Cinematic Art and Filming, honing his skills in these areas and landing roles on several popular TV shows.

These included Selimathunzi presenter (SABC 1), Isipho (ETV), DiepCity (Mzansi Magic), The Queen (Mzansi Magic), MTV Shuga (BET/SABC 1), Sibongile and the Dlaminis (Mzansi Wethu), Muvhango (SABC 2), uMjolo, and The Gone Girl (Netflix).

But Lungelo’s talents don’t stop there. He is also a skilled DJ and musician, making waves in the industry with his brother Adam Dlamini as The Incredibles. He is already reaching international DJ status.

“I am making huge strides in music and DJ’ing. I am excited to continue sharing my passion with the world,” said Lungelo.

When asked about his success, Lungelo credits his mom, Nonduduzo Mkhwanazi, for her unwavering support.

“My mom has been my rock throughout my journey. She’s taught me to trust in God and never be afraid to take risks.”

Lungelo’s words of encouragement to young people are inspiring: “Never be afraid to be afraid. Trust God. To succeed in life, you have to take risks and do things no one has done. That can be a very lonely and scary road, but embrace the fear and push through – that’s where the magic is.”

His mom adds, “I am so proud of the man my son has become. Being a single mother has never been easy, but God has been my source of strength and wisdom.

“I speak Corinthians 2:9 upon Lungelo’s life – ‘Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him’.”

With his star on the rise, Lungelo Tyson Mathonsi is proof that with talent, hard work and determination, anything is possible.
