Positive start for KZN graduates

Social development celebrates 49 graduates of the department's Youth Development Programme

Where the 1976 youth fought for freedom, the battle for today’s youths is social issues and substance abuse.

These words were shared by Social Development MEC Mbali Shinga during her graduation address at Bhobhoyi on Friday.

Shinga was speaking to the 49 graduates of the department’s Youth Development Programme, which formed part of its Youth Month celebrations in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

“We are no longer just a welfare department; we are focused on developing young people to become socially and economically engaged,” she explained, urging the attendees to seize all opportunities.

The programme imparted a variety of entrepreneurial skills, including sewing, plumbing, cooking and basic computing.

Shinga also used this platform to distribute start-up kits for plumbing, clothing manufacturing and professional cooking.
