Ilembe police root out illegal firearms

Homemade firearm and pistol seized in iLembe police operation

Illegal firearms are regarded as the main weapons for violent crime across South Africa.

The Ilembe police cluster is working hard to root out all illegal firearms within their policing area.

On Tuesday, Ilembe District’s intelligence-driven police operation arrested a 34-year-old suspect in the Sundumbili policing precinct, who was found in possession of a homemade firearm and an unlicensed firearm.

Police reacted to a tip-off which led them to Isithebe where the suspect was found and arrested in possession of a homemade firearm and a pistol.

The suspect was charged with possession of a homemade firearm and possession of an unlicensed firearm. He will appear in court in due course.
