Use your 67 minutes to donate blood

Locals encouraged to spend 67 minutes helping Richards Bay blood bank to reach a target of collecting 80 pints of blood on Mandela Day

Zululand celebrity and Survivor SA 2019 winner Rob Bentele is championing the Richards Bay Blood Donor Centre’s Mandela Day drive this Friday and urges locals to pop in to do their part for this worthy cause.

Bentele will commemorate Madiba Day by using his 67 minutes to promote the blood centre’s call to reach their target of collecting 80 pints of blood.

He will be at the centre on the lower level of Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre from 2pm to meet, greet and catch up with Zululanders.

The annual drive, which has been running for seven years with local real estate agency Leapfrog Property, will continue throughout July, with a lucky draw prize also up for grabs.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) relies on donors to keep their stock levels at the required five-day supply to meet medical emergency needs.

By donating a unit of blood every eight weeks, blood donors are able to live up to the ideal of Mandela Day by performing voluntary service throughout the year.

SANBS calls on all donors, both new and existing, to donate this life-giving resource and save up to three lives as a result.

The centre will be open from 9am to 4.30pm.
