SAPS raid in Richards Bay fake news

Police say reports of a raid in which R18-million was found at a Richards Bay house safe is false news

National police have warned against the spread of fake news after recent social media reports of a major raid in Richards Bay.

In a statement issued today (Thursday), SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the false information involved an apparent raid by the National Intervention Unit, in which R18-million was found at a house safe in Richards Bay.

“The SAPS calls for responsible social media reporting and for users to verify information first before sharing.

“The SAPS confirms that no raid was undertaken by any of its units, more so the National Intervention Unit (NIU),” said Mathe.
