King Cetshwayo July a runaway success

Bareback horserace riders thrill the crowds with daring displays

Zululanders braved a cold Saturday to witness an extravagant fourth annual King Cetshwayo traditional horse racing event held at Empangeni airfield today.

This year’s main race was won by Zakhele Mkhabela, pocketing an impressive R150 000.

The 12 thrilling traditional horse races included one race dedicated to women.

During the prize-giving ceremony, KZN MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Mntomuhle Khawula, congratulated the district on hosting the successful annual event.

He stated that these festivities benefit mostly young people by showcasing their talents.
