WATCH: Person severely burnt in runaway veld fire

A person sleeping in the bushes in Vryheid sustained severe burns over a significant portion of their body after being caught in a runaway veld fire.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night; the person was caught off guard by the rapidly spreading wildfire.

KwaZulu Private Ambulance was called to the scene, where the patient was rescued and treated.

“Paramedics arrived on scene and immediately began providing emergency medical treatment to stabilise the patient’s condition before transport. Following successful stabilisation procedures, the patient was transported to hospital for further treatment,” said KwaZulu Private spokesperson Craig Botha.
