Rapist father pleads guilty

Esikhawini Regional Court sentences man to life imprisonment for daughter's rape

A 35-year-old man was last week convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the eSikhawini Regional Court for raping his daughter (11) in January.

The man, who cannot be named for protection of the victim’s identity, pleaded guilty to charges laid against him.

In his plea, the man said that on 1 January, he was with his family, including his biological daughter, at home in the Mtunzini area.

He told the court that he called her to his room and raped her. His sister walked in on them and asked him what was going on.

The victim was crying, and his sister took her away. The police were then called, and the man was arrested.

The victim was taken to the Ngwelezana Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC) for support.

In her victim impact statement, the child indicated that she has suffered physical injuries, as well as emotional and psychological damage. She said she is performing poorly at school and is fearful.

Once convicted, the man was sentenced to a term of life imprisonment, and the court declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

The court further ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
