Zululand Fire Protection Association issues fire prevention warning

Growers, ward councillors and communities urged to heed prohibition on timber slash burning

Owing to current weather conditions, with only 4mm of rain recorded for July and nothing thus far for September, a prohibition has been placed on timber slash burning until a date still to be announced.

The directive, issued by the Zululand Fire Protection Association over the weekend, includes small growers and is applicable to all areas north of the Tugela River, all the way to eManguzi.

“There are some prospects of rain towards the end of September, but this remains to be seen,” said Tony Roberts, ZFPA fire protection officer.

Roberts called on all growers, ward councillors and members who have community influence to support and adhere to the prohibition.

ZFPA can be contacted on 082 8217779.
