KZN ANCYL gatvol with GPU

Youth league questions ANC's continued participation in the Government of Provincial Unity

The continued participation of the ANC in the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU) will be detrimental to the party.

This is the sentiment expressed by ANCYL Provincial Secretary, Lulama Mabude, who said the GPU partners were primarily seeking to remove the ANC from power – rather than prioritising service delivery.

“We have observed several incidents where municipalities and provincial departments led by the ANC are deliberately frustrated by our GPU counterparts,” said Mabude.

“This creates an impression that the ANC is responsible for service delivery challenges in the province through underhanded tactics like placing only our municipalities under administration.”

She said Finance MEC Francois Rodgers made public utterances targeting ANC-led provincial departments.

This includes placing the Department of Education under administration, with threats made towards the Department of Transport, as well as the systemic underfunding of the Department of Health.

“We have also witnessed the unceremonious removal of ANC councillors from uMkhanyakude District Municipality through a motion by the IFP.

“These are some of the many examples that led us to conclude that our continued participation in the GPU will not only be to the detriment of the ANC, but will ultimately result in depriving the people of KZN of service delivery,” she said.
