Four men caught red-handed with Eskom transformer
Police nab four men found in possession of an Eskom transformer
Four men, aged 41 to 44, were arrested in possession of an Eskom transformer and other critical electricity-related equipment last Wednesday.
KZN Cogta MEC Thulasizwe Buethelezi commended the arrest which took place on the R33 route between Vryheid and Paulpietersburg.
“These arrests come at a time when our communities are suffering under the weight of criminal syndicates who continue to sabotage service delivery by stealing millions of rands worth of infrastructure.
“Electricity, water, and sanitation infrastructure are the backbone of service delivery. When these are stolen or damaged, it plunges communities into darkness and severely hampers the delivery of essential services,” Buthelezi said.
He said the swift action by law enforcement agencies sends a strong message to criminal syndicates that they ‘will not be allowed to operate with impunity in our province’.
“We must work together to safeguard infrastructure that supports our daily lives.
“I urge all residents to come forward with any information that could lead to further arrests and the successful prosecution of those who seek to undermine service delivery,” Buthelezi added.
