Severe thunderstorm to hit Zululand region today

South African Weather Service issues yellow level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms for KwaZulu-Natal

Heavy downpours accompanied by excessive lightning, damaging winds and hail are expected to hit the Zululand region this (Monday) afternoon until the evening.

According to the SA Weather Service (SAWS), which has issued a yellow level 4 warning, scattered showers and thundershowers are expected to become severe in the northern parts of KZN.

“A shortwave trough is expected to pass over the country, with a surface trough deepening into the central interior as well as a high-pressure system west of the country, ridging in the east,” the SAWS said.

The bad weather conditions could lead to flooding of roads and bridges, damage to infrastructure, and may cause travel disruptions.
