WATCH: Alkantstrand beach rehabilitation under way

Readiness for the festive season well under way in Richards Bay, as beach undergoes rehabilitation for bathers

Festive season readiness is well under way at Alkantstrand in Richards Bay, as beach rehabilitation makes great strides.

Mirroring last year’s efforts, a coffer dam has been built, into which the dredge spoil that comes out of the pipe settles, sending the water back into the ocean but holding the sand in place.

The sand is then collected and spread along the beach.

This is after the dredger Ilembe returned to Richards Bay from Durban recently.
