Disability awareness programme comes to uMfolozi

Department of Social Development (DSD) joins hands with various stakeholders to launch disability awareness programme in Umfolozi

Educating communities about disability and promoting inclusivity, various government departments and NPOs teamed up to bring the Disability Awareness Programme to uMfolozi.

The collaboration is between the Department of Social Development (DSD) and Linzwa Foundation, supported by the departments of health, education, community safety and liaison, the IEC, SAPS and King Cetshwayo District Municipality.

The programme launches this November, but has already begun making waves in local schools, with a recent activation at Phalane Primary in Nkandla.

Representatives from DSD, the Department of Education, IEC, SAPS, Epilepsy Foundation SA, Zululand Mental Health Society, and Community Safety and Liaison came together to engage with pupils, spreading messages of understanding and support.

The programme also highlights the role of organisations such as the Epilepsy Foundation SA and Zululand Mental Health Society in promoting mental health and supporting individuals with disabilities.
