Planned 24-hour water shutdown to affect Richards Bay, Empangeni

Nsezi Water Treatment Plant to be shut down from 6am this Saturday to 6am Sunday

KZN water utility uMngeni-uThukela Water (UUW) has announced a planned 24-hour maintenance shutdown at the Nsezi Water Treatment Plant, set to affect Richards Bay, Empangeni and surrounding areas this weekend.

According to the utility’s spokesperson, Siyabonga Maphumulo, the plant will be shut down from 6am on Saturday to 6am on Sunday to conduct essential statutory maintenance.

“This shutdown is necessary to ensure the optimal performance of the plant. Water supply to Richards Bay, Empangeni and nearby communities within the City of uMhlathuze will be affected during this period. We urge residents and stakeholders to use water sparingly,” said Maphumulo.

Maphumulo expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation and understanding, emphasising that the planned work is part of ongoing efforts to improve the reliability and efficiency of the region’s water supply infrastructure.
