2 nabbed for possession of illegal firearms

Two 9mm pistols and 16 live rounds of ammunition seized during police operation in Ngwelezane

Two suspects were on Wednesday arrested during a multi-disciplinary police operation in Nqutshini outside Ngwelezane for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The operation was conducted by the King Cetshwayo Economic Infrastructure Task Team with eSikhaleni and Empangeni task team members following a tip-off.

“Two 9mm pistols and 16 live rounds of ammunition were found and seized during the arrest of two suspects aged between 35 and 46.

“Police also found a short gun rifle during the arrest. Both suspects appeared before the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court and were remanded in police custody pending further investigation,” said King Cetshwayo Cluster police spokesperson Captain Siyanda Shangase.
