Fake news: No stage 6 load-shedding this weekend

Eskom warns of fake stage 6 post circulating, urges South Africans to verify information through official channels

In answer to a post doing the rounds on social media, Eskom has confirmed that South Africans are not in for stage 6 load-shedding this weekend.

The post, entitled ‘Stage 6 load-shedding alert’ says Eskom has unveiled stage 6 time slots for this weekend.

The date emblazoned across the top of the image says 2024, and includes a Google link for people to click on.

“Eskom notes with concern the circulation of reports claiming that stage 6 [load-shedding] will be implemented this coming weekend. These reports are incorrect, misleading and irresponsible,” said the power utility.

“The national power system remains stable, successfully meeting demand for 98% of the time this financial year, and continues to operate reliably. Eskom remains committed to transparency and will provide timely updates on the state of the system through its official channels.

“We urge the public to disregard misinformation and rely only on Eskom’s verified platforms for accurate information.”
