Local bus operator temporarily suspends its services from Monday, 17 August, citing outstanding subsidy payments

Bus commuters from KwaMbonambi and Sokhulu may be forced to find alternative transport from Monday if the KZN Department of Transport fails to settle outstanding subsidy payments owed to Sihlangene Bus Service.

The bus operator has announced that it may temporarily suspend its services from Monday, 17 August, citing outstanding subsidy payments for April, May, June and August.

In a notice to passengers, the company said the suspension would go ahead if the department fails to pay the outstanding subsidies by Friday (tomorrow).

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience and uncertainty this situation may cause. Passengers will be informed immediately of any changes or further developments,” said the company management.

Sihlangene Bus Service raised concerns in April over the impact of delayed subsidy payments, saying the financial strain was threatening its operations.

The company appealed to its customers for their understanding, patience and continued support during what it described as a difficult period.

The provincial Department of Transport has been approached for comment on the outstanding payments and the potential suspension of services.
