Enseleni boxer takes on Gauteng rival
eNseleni boxer Syanda Mthethwa faces unbeaten Gauteng opponent Ethen Peters in Johannesburg on Thursday night.
Enseleni boxer Syanda ‘Phoyisa’ Mthethwa (24) is set to exchange blows with Gauteng’s Ethen Peters in a four-round bout in the Heavyweight Division, taking place at Emperors Palace in Jo’burg this Thursday night, 27 August.
The fight is being organised by the Golden Grove Promotion and will be televised on Supersport Variety4 channel.
Born and bred in KwaMathwathwa, Phoyisa has been fighting in the amateur ranks for the past decade, turning pro this year.
Through Syathaba Boxing Promotion, he competed in the National Championships in Cape Town in July, returning home with a bronze medal.
To date, he has won 11 fights as an amateur. He will be drawing on his experience when he takes on Peters, who has fought three professional fights, winning all with knockouts.
Mthethwa understands what is at stake, as this fight will help him to get boxing ratings.
“This is not just my fight. I am representing the entire King Cetshwayo region, as well as my whole village,” said Phoyisa.
He said a win will help secure a rating to attract promoters.
“I’m training at uMhlathuze Boxing Club and my trainers are doing a very good job to ensure I am ready for the task ahead of me,” he said.
