Spread the love, make a Santa Shoebox pledge

Local communities are encouraged to pledge a special shoebox filled with essentials

Zululanders are encouraged to spread cheer and put a smile on the faces of many children in need ahead of the festive season.

Through the Santa Shoebox charity initiative, local communities are encouraged to pledge a special shoebox filled with essentials and a special gift.

“A pledge is a personal promise made to a specific child. For a child who has learnt not to ask for much, the moment they see their own name on a box, pull out brand-new clothes in their exact size, and unpack school supplies, their very own soap and toothbrush, and a toy picked just for them, their entire world feels generous,” said Santa Shoebox Project CEO Deb Zelezniak.

The Santa Shoeboxes, each containing eight specified items of treats and essentials and other goodies, are given to underprivileged children.

Brighten up a child’s day with a Santa Shoebox

From 1 September each year, Santa Shoebox donors choose their beneficiary children by name, age and gender, and are given the child’s clothing size.

Each personalised shoebox reaches the child it was pledged to, is tracked by QR code, and can include a heartwarming personalised note from the donor.

You can choose from 70 drop-off points around the country, or make a financial donation.

“Drop-off events will soon be taking place across the country, with the last ones closing their doors on 7 November.

“Once the boxes are checked and packed, the rest of November is dedicated entirely to delivering pure magic to children in more than a thousand schools and Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres nationwide,” said Zelezniak.
