Three suspects were on Friday arrested by the KwaDukuza SAPS for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

iLembe District corporate communications officer Priya Nunkumar said police worked swiftly after receiving a tip-off that suspects were going to rob a store in Dorinkop, KwaDukuza.

“Police successfully foiled the suspects’ plans, and arrested them. They were all found in possession of firearms, ammunition and other equipment used for breaking in,” she said.

“All three suspects – aged 24, 26 and 43 – were in possession of a 9mm pistol and live rounds of ammunition. One suspect was also found with a balaclava, gloves and a 14-pound hammer.

“The firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if they were used in any other criminal activities. The suspects will appear in KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court in due time,” said Nunkumar.
