Queen Nandi Hospital suspends referrals for generator installation

Empangeni's Queen Nandi Regional Hospital to suspend patient referrals from 23 to 25 October while new generators are installed.

Queen Nandi Regional Hospital will not accept any patient referrals from Friday, 23 October to Sunday, 25 October.

The maternity hospital in Empangeni will install two new generators, including necessary electrical cabling and changeover procedures, on Saturday.

In a communique issued by the hospital CEO, the installation will result in two temporary interruptions in electricity supply.

“All referrals requiring regional or tertiary-level mother and child service will be redirected to alternative appropriate facilities, after discussions among clinical teams.

“Normal services are anticipated to resume on 25 October, subject to the successful completion of the generator installation and electrical changeovers,” reads the communique.

The CEO further requested emergency medical services to be available and on standby in the eventuality of needing to move patients urgently on the day to other facilities.
