Doctors and staff did a sterling job

Richards Bay resident Nizam Dastager’s life was saved thanks to the swift action of the Melomed Richards Bay team.

The morning of Friday, 17 April 2019 started really badly for Dastager (58). He was having a heart attack and was rushed to Melomed by his son.
‘At the trauma section, they acted very fast. They stabilised my condition and waited for Cardiac Surgeon Dr Sizwe Mthiyane to have a look at the ECG report,’ Dastager says.

Dr Mthiyane admitted him to hospital. After a few days in isolation to wait for the results of his standard Covid test, Dastager was moved to the ICU.
‘The treatments that followed was excellent. Dr Mthiyane, Dr Murugan and Dr Ramgulam had taken over and they did a sterling job.

‘I had my angiogram on Monday 20 April and I was taken to theatre on 22 April for a triple bypass.

‘The sister in charge and the nurses that took care of me were excellent. All the staff and doctors did a sterling job and on 28 April I was discharged,’ he says.

‘I had a very speedy recovery and I am grateful to the doctors and the staff members of Melomed who helped and supported me.

‘It’s almost two years later and I feel good!’ he says.
