Tough Tuks test for Thanda

Amabhubesi need to be at their best to get three more points

THERE are no more easy games ahead for Thanda Royal Zulu.

They found that out in a frantic 2-2 draw against AmaZulu on Sunday when, incidentally, only the City of uMhlathuze stadium’s new floodlights enabled the game to be completed in the dark, overcast conditions.

Every opponent for the remaining 12 games of the 2016/2017 NFD season will either be fighting for survival or battling to make the play-offs for PSL promotion.

Their adversary this Saturday, University of Pretoria, is one of the latter.

They currently lie in 6th place, but are only four points behind second placed Black Leopards.

Playing at home in front of their noisy fans, Tuks will throw all they have at the Amabhubesi, who after two consecutive draws will themselves be determined to grab another three points in their quest for automatic promotion.

Still 10 points clear of the chasing pack, Thanda will have learned a harsh lesson after surrendering a 2-0 lead against the Usuthu.

At times in the game their play was exquisite. Both goals were fabulous team efforts, especially the first when Khotso Malope dazzled his way to the byline and cut back for Mhlengi Cele to smash home his first of two in a welcome return to scoring form.

But defending also requires teamwork and too often AmaZulu pulled the back four out of position, leaving no cover.

They also paid the price for the numerous squandered opportunities.

No doubt Roger Sikhakhane and his technical team would have studied and remedied any weaknesses.

We’re backing the young lions to come back with all three points.
