Empangeni takes the Hornbill Bowls trophy

Empangeni bowlers with convincing win in inaugural Hornbill Trophy in eShowe

BOWLERS participating in the Hornbill Bowls Trophy event over the weekend in eShowe had to face challenging weather conditions throughout the competition.

Rainy and overcast conditions on Saturday gave way to hot and windy weather on Sunday, making bowling very difficult in the gusting crosswinds.

The team of Steve Oberholzer, Gloria Carbutt, Margaret van Heusden and Chalk Kellaway from the Empangeni Bowling Club showed they had what it takes and were runaway winners.

After leading into the second day, they proved too strong for the opposition and won with an impressive final score of 50 + 43.

Mtunizini, who finished third on day one, managed to finish in second place with a score of 14 + 28, while Anita Scott’s Richards Bay team slipped to third place with -7 + 27.

The main sponsor, Warwick Wealth, represented by Bobby Beakes, has already committed to sponsor next year’s competition.
