Smashing action in Richards Bay

With just four spots up for grabs in both the boys' and girls' sections, players had to up their game to cement their spot in the 2018 team, which resulted in a high calibre of tennis being played on the day

TALENTED local U13 tennis players competed in the King Cetshwayo primary schools tennis trials in Richards Bay on Saturday for a spot in the district side that will compete at the KZN trials in Pietermaritzburg from 23 to 25 February.

With just four spots up for grabs in both the boys’ and girls’ sections, players had to up their game to cement their spot in the 2018 team, which resulted in a high calibre of tennis being played on the day.

Players were divided into four groups and followed a round robin format, contesting the best of nine games per match.

The top two players from each group went through to the play-offs and contested for the final four spots in each category.

The high school (U19) trials will take place on Saturday (3 February) in Richards Bay.

Action is scheduled to get underway from 8am.

The squad that gets selected there will attend the KZN trials in Durban from 1 to 4 March.
