THE fourth annual Zululand Observer ‘Hang Out With Madiba’ event is ready to fill the wash lines on Monday, 18 July.
The initiative, started by editor Dave Savides has together with our charity arm, Do I Care Enough (DICE) enjoyed overwhelming support since its inception.
This year will hopefully be no different.
‘Hang Out With Madiba is a fantastic opportunity for businesses and individuals to get on board with community outreach in a very tangible way,’ said Savides.
Washing lines are erected at the ZO offices in Empangeni and eShowe.
The Richards Bay venue will again be in front of the Civic Centre adjacent to East Central Arterial and all are invited to bring some old clothes or blankets (toys too, if the kids won’t notice) to hang them on the line.
The clothes are then distributed to Zululand’s needy by DICE and uThungulu Disaster Management.
The City of uMhlathuze, St Catherine’s Rotaract and the Empangeni and Richards Bay Rotary Clubs are also playing a majior part.
‘For the past three years the support has been really fantastic,’ Savides continued.
‘We would like to issue a challenge to everyone so that this year we can reach a new milestone.
‘The clothes go to people who really need them and great care is taken to ensure needy causes are identified and supported.’
Lines will be open from early in the morning until 3pm so get to your nearest ZO office and hang it all on the line.
Please also bring your own clothes pegs.
Companies are welcome to put up their own lines and drop the clothing off at the ZO afterwards.
