Old man assaulted by six suspects

David Malobola (73) from KwaThema, who works as a security man at one of the churches in KwaThema, was brutally attacked on Saturday night.

The old man was awakened by a loud bang on the door as six robbers stormed into his shack. Malobola says the robbers did not talk to him but took out a gun and threatened to kill him should he scream for help.

“Pointing the gun at me was not enough for the robbers as one of them started to hit me on the head while the other five robbers were busy taking the furniture and my clothes outside the shack,” says a frightened Malobola.

Seeing that Malobola was trying to fight for his life when the robbers attacked him, they tied his hands and legs using wire.

He says the robbers took the church’s two keyboards, a speaker, ‘fridge, groceries, R1 200 pension money and a suitcase packed with all of his clothes.

To ask for help after the robbers had fled the scene, Malobola went to one of his neighbours who called the police and an ambulance. He suffered head and chest injuries and was taken to Pholosong Hospital for treatment. “I live with more than seven stitches on my head while the chest pains that I suffer become even more severe by the day,” Malobola says. He says a case of house robbery has been opened by KwaThema police.

Speaking on behalf of KwaThema police, Captain Ntsane Ntsane could not confirm the opening of a case as the victim could not come forward with a case number so that the police can give a report on the status of the case.
