The gift of love

The community of Tsakane came together in full force to give children a memorable Christmas.

Sponsors and community members gathered at the Tsakane Metro park on Saturday to hand out food parcels and clothing to child-headed families.

Twin Plug Entertainment, in collaboration with the Tsakane Post Office, dedicated Saturday to the children and community Tsakane.

This day was also used as an awareness campaign on the 16 days of activism against women and child abuse.

Samantha Radebe of the Tsakane Clinic gave a demonstration on the workings of the female condom.

“The female condom is nothing to be ashamed of, instead it can save your life,” she said.

Members of the community were able to ask questions and interact with the nursing staff present.

Captain Petrus Mabuza of the Tsakane SAPS was there to talk about rape and gave the youngsters tips on how to be safe this festive season.

“Rape, although it is no fault of the victim, can be avoided, please do not tempt a rapist by travelling alone at night in a drunk state,” he said.

He added that youngsters need to be extra careful of the places that they go to and parents should know where their children are.

Freddy Mphela, who is in charge of depot control at the Tsakane Post Office, hopes that this donation will assist those in need.

“We can’t turn a blind eye to the sufferings of those around us, their pain touches us too,” he said.

Sponsors for the day included Old Mutual, Tsakane Post Office, ABI, GFC Couriers and members of the community.
