Woman raped inside her yard
Women in Everest/Gugulethu Informal settlement do not feel safe, not even inside their yards.
A woman (35) who was with her two children sleeping inside their shack was awakened by a strong knock on Monday night around 11pm.
Springs police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora says the woman woke up to open the door thinking that it was her boyfriend who was at the door.
He says the victim was shocked when an unknown man stormed inside the shack and dragged her outside the shack and raped her.
Capt Ramphora says the victim was rescued by two men who were walking on the street who caught the suspect and started to assault him until he managed to run away.
The suspect was later arrested at the Far East Rand Hospital just few hours after the incident.
He is expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate Court soon for rape.
