Gauteng East tops Gauteng
The Gauteng East District which includes the Kwatsaduza area, has been awarded as the most improved district in the province with an increase of 6.8%.

The district director Maureen Mthimunye emphasises that good results can only be achieved if “parents play an active role and assist with learners being at school every day, attending every class and doing all tasks given to them”.
Enrolment has increased by 15.61% between 2011 and 2013 and although distinctions have declined by 1.44%, bachelors climbed by 8.79% and no school obtained an overall percentage of below 60%.
Langaville High School is fourth in the top 10 priority schools and the first in Kwatsaduza with an impressive 95.58% with only five learners failing in a group of 113.
Home languages like Sepedi, Setswana, Xitsonga, Sesotho, Isixhosa all achieved 100% passes followed closely by IsiZulu with 99.9% with 51 distinctions the highest in vernacular languages.
“The progress and improvement was a concerted effort by different stakeholders,” said the director. The district assisted with the secondary school improvement programme but says it hopes learners will take advantage of the opportunity as meals and transport arrangements are available.
Mthimunye says, for the results to improve, everyone involved should start doing their part now while it’s early. She again urged parents to attend school meetings and speak to teachers to get their children’s progress reports.
Teachers and principals are also praised for their commitment, having their own extra lessons, completing the syllabus and doing revision.
