Learn to swim

Many community members have never been to the public pool at the KwaThema Sports Complex.

Sabelo Gumbi (34) from RIP, is a lifeguard and the swimming instructor, something he’s done for 14 years.

He says he wishes residents would take advantage of free services offered, which include basic swimming lessons and water safety.

Sabelo currently trains an estimated 40 pupils every Thursday from Umsobomvu Primary School and Phelang LSEN.

“I wish parents can come and swim with their children and not wait until something forces them to learn,” says the instructor.

He adds that people wait until they are invited for the selection process when they apply to become flight attendants, which requires that they be able to swim.

Only then do they come to learn to swim.

Senior citizens are also encouraged to visit the pool.

“There are some water exercises which are useful in fighting some of the health problems which affect old people,” concludes Sabelo.
