Toddler dies in fire
An eight-month-old toddler died in a house fire during the early hours of Sunday in Langaville Extension Four.
The two-roomed RDP house was on fire around 2am and the screams from inside woke up the neighbours who rushed to see what was going on.
The baby boy was inside the house with his mother when the neighbours arrived on the scene to try and rescue them but it was too late for the little boy. He did not survive the blazing flames and was declared dead on the scene, while his mother was taken to Pholosong Hospital after suffering serious burns all over her body.
It is alleged that the fire was started by the man who is the toddler’s father and the woman’s lover.
According to one of the neighbours who was on the scene trying to fight the flames, Smanga Maya, no-one knows exactly what the cause of the fire was. Everyone was wakened by a sad screaming voice asking for help.
“We did not see anyone setting alight the house but we rushed to the scene to see if how we can help those who were trapped inside the house and we managed to drag the woman outside the house,” said an emotional Maya.
Tsakane police spokesman Captain Petros Mabuza, confirmed the arrest of the man and said he is faced with a double murder case as the woman did not survive the severe burns and died in hospital.
