New station commander in KwaThema

Mashaba is originally from Spruitview and he served as a station commander at Reiger Park Police Station under the Brakpan Cluster before he was transferred to KwaThema Police Station.

With 31 years of experience in the police department, Mashaba is confident that with the help from the community he will fight and win a battle against crime in the township.

He says, only one week after he became part of the KwaThema family, he has already noticed the high number of rape, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault cases reported to the police.

Mashaba says to involve the community in fighting against crime, he will soon have a meeting with them to hear their problems and their expectations from him.

“Crime is a social responsibility, police cannot create crime-free zones if the community members do not play their role,” explains Mashaba.

Speaking about the challenges that the police face Mashaba says in most instances the police spend time working on cases that end up not going to court as the victims withdraw the cases.

“The assault and rape cases that happened between the lovers get withdrawn every day by the victims,” Mashaba says. He encourages the police to take pride in their work.

He says to him, becoming a policeman means taking responsibility to ensure the community’s safety and always making the community feel protected around him..
