KwaThema Victim Empowerment Centre is still active
KwaThema's victim support officials say they are always available to help the victims of abuse.
The centre has been operational for almost 10 years and has seven volunteers, however there are abused victims from KwaThema who still do not know where to find help.
Zithulele Mahlangu, Victim Empowerment Centre coordinator says the centres was opened to provide support to the victims of abuse including physical, sexual, emotional, economical and psychological abuse.
He further explains that the KwaThema centre provides emotional and practical support and refers victims to professional support services. It also provides domestic violence-related information.
Mahlangu says the centre appeals to the community to report any abusive or suspected abusive behaviour to the police or to the officials at the centre.
“We believe that reporting abuse is another step towards crime prevention,” says Mahlangu.
The KwaThema centre opens from 8am until 4pm from Monday to Friday. During a weekend, victim support officials are available on standby. For more information regarding the services offered by the centre, call 011 812 4690 or the police station on 011 812 4612.
