It was an unusual day at the office, when KwaThema police responded to a call to come collect a tombstone.
KwaThema police captain Mandla Phori says a family from Interland reported that they found the tombstone in their yard last month and contacted the police.
The tombstone is engraved with, “Pretty Mabena, born in 1979 and died in 1980.”
The captain says since they don’t know where the tombstone was taken from, they can’t open a case of violation of a grave site.
“We appeal to the community with any information which might shed light on this case to come to the station or call 011 812 4600.”
The captain said relatives who want to claim the tombstone must bring proof of identification.
