Top matric achievers awarded by Methodist Church

Rewarding hard work

The fifth annual matric recognition awards were held by the Methodist Church, Kgaswane Street on Sunday.

The day honours the top three matriculants from all seven high schools in KwaThema.

Top performers from neighbouring schools, in Springs and Brakpan who reside in KwaThema are also awarded, which brings the total number to 40 learners.

The KwaThema matric class of 2014, was also invited to the event.

Pastor Smadz Matsepe says the aim of the event is to inspire the current matrics to also work hard.

“The overall top five learners received laptops, as well as stationary products, which will assist them in furthering their studies,” said Smadz.

Phumedzo Ndwandi, a medical doctor who obtained her doctoral qualification at the age of 24 also motivated the youngsters to work hard and achieve their goals.

While Vinolia Mogashoa from the Ekurhuleni East College told the learners, “the is no reason for people not to get an education, because government provides fees and transport bursaries for its colleges.”
